Healing starts with Honesty & Forgiveness

Today's Journey: Learning to Forgive through God’s Grace and strength

I know that this is a big ask and this is one that I am asking not lightly. I know that for many of the people that you will have to forgive, will not be sorry or you never received any closure or they show absolutely no remorse. I mean how do you forgive the family member that hurt you or the stranger that forced himself on you. How do you forgive yourself for the decision you made during times of intoxication or being high.

You will be faced with so many haunting memories and thoughts that will make you want to just go back to your old ways. I get that and believe me that was me for years. I walked around so angry for such a long time because I felt the world owed me. I lost so much at such a young age it just seemed unfair.

The one thing I did not know before Christ was me holding onto all that bitterness and anger made me stay stuck in that world. When the Lord first asked me to forgive people who truly broke me, I couldn’t understand why he would do that to me and why he would take their sides.

That was when the gentle correction came and he showed me that I was forgiving them for me. I asked God daily for forgiveness for relapsing or falling back to old ways yet I felt I did not need to forgive anyone else.

This will not be easy but through God’s word and his strength you will get through this. Just take one faithful step at a time.
