Today's Journey: Calling out your addictions by name
One of the most important steps in healing is being honest about the things we've been carrying and identifying the areas of our lives that we need to surrender to God.
This session isn't about shame, guilt, or judgment. It's about freedom.
We live in a society where we get judged and criticized for having addictions, especially as a single mother. It is portrayed as if we woke up one day and said I will be an alcoholic or a drug addict. The phrase I despised the most always was “Why don’t you just stop.” Has if the ability was there to stop and I made that daily choice to remain stuck. I no longer view the word sin or addictions as this Taboo word, but rather as a road map to my life of the areas I still need to work on.
I realized while I started my healing journey that all these addictions where just symptoms of a much deeper problem. The more I treated the symptom the more I would stop for awhile and once I got triggered again, I would relapse. With that relapse every time I was over thrown with guilt and shame. It felt like this rollercoaster I was on, I was so sick on the ride but just could not push the stop button and get off. I became my own worse enemy
Then a very powerful thing happen, God came into my pit I dug for myself and he rescued me. It was after a heavy weekend of partying and I was just tired. I had absolutely no more energy left to continue the way I was. My thoughts where no longer my own, I wanted to stop but I physically could not. I was about to end it all when I cried out to God, “ If you are real , this is the time to prove it because I am done”. Thinking back now how arrogant of me, but I was beyond despair.
As the faithful God he is, he heard my cries, he met me exactly where I was. He did not require from me to first get my own act under control. He just needed me to surrender it all to him.
““God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. He will provide a way out.” ”

Reflection Question:
What addiction am I making excuses for?
Guided Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Today I bring every sister to your feet Father. You alone know who is battling with what today. Father only you know the silent cries no one has heard. Only you know the scars and pain we carry as single mothers. Today may we pull our strength from you. May we come boldly to your Throne and place all battles at your feet.
May we stand tall with no guilt or shame and declare that you are Lord of Lords and King of Kings. That you are the truth, the light and the way.
I pray for a healing that surpassing all understanding. We will always see our battles as these big mountains, that is why we lay them before you.
Because this battle does not belong to us God, and we give it back to you.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
